Frequently Asked Questions– Air Conditioning Rebates Victoria
There isn’t a set amount for the Victorian Government air conditioner rebate. The amount you receive depends on the type of system being removed and the new unit being installed.
If you’re installing a new reverse-cycle split system without removing an old unit, the rebate typically ranges from $70 to $150, depending on the model and size of the system. If you’re replacing an existing split system, the rebate is higher — usually between $200 and $400.
The highest rebates are available when you remove a gas heater. If you’re decommissioning a gas wall heater, you may receive between $500 and $1,500. For a central gas heating system, rebates can range from $1,000 to $5,000.
Box-style air conditioners (window units) are not eligible for the rebate. These rebates are part of the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, which is designed to encourage households to switch to energy-efficient heating and cooling, especially by phasing out gas systems.
The rebate is applied as an upfront discount, not a refund. When we send your quote, the rebate amount has already been deducted, so you’re not left waiting weeks for money to come through. Kool Air handles all of the required paperwork and photos on your behalf. All we need is a signed agreement, which can be completed electronically or on paper after the installation.
Daikin is our preferred brand for rebate-eligible installations. While other brands may also qualify, not all models are accepted under the Victorian Government rebate program. To ensure compliance and reliability, we supply and install Daikin split systems. For example, the Daikin Alira X and Cora models are eligible for the rebate, but the Lite model is not. Choosing an approved model helps ensure you receive the maximum rebate available.
Yes, landlords are eligible for the government rebates.
Once you receive your quote with the government rebate already applied, we ask for a 50% deposit to secure your booking. After the deposit is received, we aim to complete the installation within 7 to 10 business days. We take care of the entire rebate application and all paperwork, so there’s nothing you need to do except sign a short agreement after the installation. This can be completed via text or email, or we can provide a paper copy if you prefer.
